Surface finishes

Lacquer or oil – which is better?

Both options have their merits. The choice comes down to how the room is used and your personal preference.

Durability and easy upkeep

Lacquer

  • Forms a firm, sealed surface layer
  • Resistant to mechanical wear
  • Easy upkeep – simply wipe clean
  • Recommended for hallways, kitchens, offices

Upkeep

Dry sweeping, occasional damp mopping. Refinish every 10–15 years.

Natural look and spot repairs

Oil

  • Penetrates the wood, keeping a natural look
  • Spot repairs without sanding the whole floor
  • Ages beautifully, develops a patina
  • Recommended for living rooms and bedrooms

Upkeep

Regular care with an oil-based cleaner. Re-oil every 1–2 years.

Laying patterns

Four timeless patterns

Herringbone (English)

The most popular pattern. Blocks laid at 90° against each other. Elegant and timeless.

French herringbone (chevron)

Blocks cut at 45° or 60° to form continuous zig-zags. A more luxurious look than classic herringbone.

Plank pattern

Simple staggered rows. Visually enlarges the space.

Basket / checkerboard

Squares of perpendicular fingers. A historic pattern for grand, representative interiors.

Wood species

Which one to choose

Wood hardness (Janka) determines resistance to denting. Oak is the gold standard.

Oak

3.8 kN

The most popular – hard, durable, timeless.

Ash

4.0 kN

Very hard, light-toned, with a bold grain.

Beech

3.8 kN

Fine texture, reddish tone, modern.

Walnut

4.5 kN

Premium, dark, luxurious appearance.

Merbau

4.9 kN

Exotic, extremely hard, deep brown.

Cherry

3.0 kN

Warm tone that darkens over time.

Benefits

Why choose parquet

01

Long lifespan

With proper care, parquet lasts for decades. Solid parquet can be refinished more than 10 times.

02

Can be refinished

Unlike laminate, parquet can be sanded back and restored to its original condition.

03

Natural material

Wood is an ecological, renewable material that creates a healthy indoor environment.

04

Aesthetic value

Parquet brings elegance and warmth to a space. Every piece of wood is an original with a unique grain.

05

Adds property value

A quality parquet floor is an investment that increases the value of a flat or house.

06

Thermal comfort

Wood naturally insulates and is pleasant to the touch. Ideal with underfloor heating.

07

Acoustics and quiet

A wooden floor dampens footsteps and resonance. The space feels calmer and warmer.

08

Healthy environment

Wood builds no static charge, produces no microplastics and regulates humidity.

09

Kind to children

A warm surface with no chemical off-gassing. Ideal for children's rooms and crawling on the floor.

Parquet care

Minimum effort for maximum durability

Parquet needs no miracle products. A simple routine is enough.

1Daily

Dry sweeping

With a soft broom or a vacuum with a parquet head. Removes dust and fine debris.

2Weekly

Damp mopping

A well-wrung mop (never wet!). For oiled parquet, an occasional dedicated cleaner.

3Monthly

Check gaps and thresholds

Watch for height differences and any cracks. We handle small spot repairs quickly.

41–2× a year

Re-oiling

For oiled parquet only. Extends lifespan and keeps the natural look.

510–15 years

Full renovation

Sanding plus a new surface finish. The parquet looks like new and lasts for further decades.
